Russia Hails Israel’s Strike against Islamic State Terrorists in Syria

The Russian Analyst has been writing about the growing ties between Israel and Russia for some time. While it would still be wrong to say the former frenemies who found themselves on opposite sides of the Syria proxy war are now allies, a new chapter is being written in relations between Moscow and Tel Aviv. While Russiagate hysteria and calls for new sanctions dominate Congress, both pro-Israel Congressmen and the legacy media do their best to pretend U.S. BFF Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and America’s supposed mortal enemy and Trump puppeteer Vladimir Putin do not have business-like relations. Much of that has to do with pragmatism, and Netanyahu recognizing that the ‘moderate’ Syria rebels have lost the war and the Kurds under American protection are cutting deals with Damascus. Another component is the fact that 1/7th of Israel’s population speaks Russian at home or has a relative who do so, and Israeli businessmen wanting to get Leviathan field natural gas from the Mediterranean into the Turkstream pipeline to Europe.

At any rate the Russian Defense Ministry issuing a rare note of praise for their Israeli counterparts for finally hitting ISIS in Syria rather than abetting them through air strikes on Russia’s allies in the Syrian Arab Army is noteworthy. The extensive talks between Netanyahu and Putin plus the Helsinki Summit are already bearing fruit, even if the U.S./UK legacy media ignore these subtle results. — JWS

The Other Mideast War: Saudi/UAE Siege of Hodeidah Fails, Houthis Step Up Attacks Inside the Kingdom

The Other Mideast War: Saudi/UAE Siege of Hodeidah Fails, Houthis Step Up Attacks Inside the Kingdom

With the global media’s eyes will be fixed Monday on the summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump at Helsinki, Finland, Syria is expected to be the main topic of negotiations between the world’s two leading military powers. Israeli media in particular have extensively covered a prospective bargain between Putin and Trump, whereby invited Iranian forces withdraw from Syria in return for the U.S. pulling its troops out of its uninvited and thereby illegal under international law bases east of the Euphrates River. Some Israelis, affiliated with the neocons, having bitterly denounced Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for allegedly placing naive trust in Putin’s word, while foreign policy realists have pointed out the Russian leader cannot make the Iranians leave Syria — even if he wanted to do so.

However, as RogueMoney readers are aware, there is another conflict besides the proxy war with Iran in Syria, that petrodollar linchpin Saudi Arabia has been losing since 2015. This one is much closer to home and therefore more dangerous to the Saudi monarchy than losing influence in the Levant. The defection of a prince from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Qatar, Riyadh’s gas-rich Sunni rival, has shined a spotlight on the Emiratis casualties in the Yemen War, and serious dissension inside the Emirates ruling houses regarding the Saudi-led coalition’s quagmire.

Since the Saudis broke off diplomatic relations with Doha in June 2017, Qatar’s Al-Jazeera channel has relentlessly covered the staggering humanitarian costs of the Saudis war on Yemen, as well as the Kingdom’s covered up combat deaths which Western media outlets, fearing expulsion from the country, fail to cover. On Sunday, Putin handed Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani a ceremonial FIFA soccer ball symbolizing Qatar’s 2022 hosting of the World Cup.

‘Stop Genocide: Peace and Development for Yemen!’

The battle for Hodeidah has reached a critical phase this week, as outnumbered Houthi defenders of the city are inflicting heavy losses on Saudi and UAE troops and southern Yemeni mercenaries. Most importantly, the Red Sea port represents a vital lifeline to the world for humanitarian aid to reach Houthi controlled areas including the capital Sanaa, the highway to which has been almost cut off by Saudi/UAE coalition attacks and air strikes. The fighting must stop so vital supplies, food and medicines can reach starving Yemenis.

From the start of the Yemen War in 2015, the LaRouche Movement and International Schiller Institute have advocated for an immediate end to the hostilities followed by a major reconstruction program to integrate the poorest nation in the Arab world and its neighbors into the Maritime and New Silk Roads.

Syraq SITREP 59: SAA and Iraqi PMU Get Hit by Israeli Strike Near Abu Kamal, Syrians Clash with U.S. Proxies Near Al-Tanf

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched Operation Basalt this week. The liberation of southern Syria’s Da’ara and Quneitra provinces is going forward despite U.S. threats and Israeli attempts to slow it. Israel hit pro-Damascus forces and Iraqi Shi’a allies in the border town of al Hari in Deir Ezzor province. The Israeli suspected drone strike carried out Sunday night, initially blamed by Syrian media on the Americans (likely because IAF jets were once again detected by the Russians squawking on IFF/radar as American F15Es rather than IAF F15Is) struck the meeting near the Euphrates River city of Abu Kamal, killing scores of SAA and PMU fighters from Iraq.

Undaunted by Israeli aggression against a nominal US ally, the Iraqi PMU have bolstered their support for the SAA this week. Officers of the Iranian-backed militia are reportedly joining Syrian government forces assault on the jihadists in Quneitra this weekend. SAA T55, T72 and modern T90 battle tanks were transported by flatbed trucks to southern Syria, with artillery and Russian-supplied Urugan and Smerch rocket fire pounding jihadi positions, cutting militants off from the rest of the Da’ara pocket.

Syraq SITREP 58: Mattis Vows U.S. Will Stay in Syria Indefinitely, SAA Preparing Dara’a, Quneitra Offensive

NOTE: This is our 58th Syraq SITREP written for RogueMoney. Barring any major U.S. or Israeli strikes in Syria, the Russian Analyst plans to publish fewer Syraq SITREPs on RM this summer.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is preparing for a major offensive to liberate the southern part of the country from jihadists who serve as a buffer between Damascus southern outskirts and the Israeli occupied Golan Heights. This offensive will be led by the SAA’s elite Tiger Forces commanded by Brigadier General Suheil Hassan (portrayed with Russian airpower art on the left) and the 4th Armored Division.

However, Islamic State remnants which have been attacking across the Euphrates River from territory nominally controlled by the U.S. and its Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) allies forced the SAA to delay the big push south. Syrian government forces have beaten back Daesh at Abu Kamal, a city that borders Iraq’s Al-Qaim which is the overland linkage between Damascus and friendly forces from Baghdad. SAA units also went on the offensive against ISIS in the southeastern Badiya Al-Sham region, killing over 20 Daesh terrorists near Sweida. But SAA fighting with ISIS units operating from American controlled territory continues.

Speaking on Friday at a NATO forum in Brussels, Defense Secretary James Mattis vowed to keep U.S. occupation forces in Syria indefinitely after the elimination of the remaining ISIS pockets along the Syrian-Iraqi border, saying a hasty withdrawal of American troops would be a “strategic blunder”.

Washington's 12 point demands to Iran look eerily like Austro-Hungary's demands to Serbia in 1914 where both were doomed to fail

The Trump administration laid out a new and 'upgraded' Iran deal on May 21 which would facilitate the U.S. getting back on board with what they stepped away from when the President 'tore up' the previous agreement engineered by Barack Obama.  And perhaps what is most interesting is that the upgrades appear to actually be meant to fail as the entire scheme looks eerily similar to what Austro-Hungary did to Serbia back in 1914 following the assassination of the Arch-Duke.

Syraq SITREP 47: British Media Denies UK Special Operators May Have Been Captured by Syrian Arab Army, OPCW Headed to Douma as US/UK/French Strikes on Syria Delayed, If Not Denied

Syraq SITREP 47: British Media Denies UK Special Operators May Have Been Captured by Syrian Arab Army, OPCW Headed to Douma as US/UK/French Strikes on Syria Delayed, If Not Denied

In the weeks prior to the chemical attack in Douma, which Moscow has denounced as a false flag operation, the British government accused the Russian state of poisoning Sergei and Yulia Skripal with a nerve agent, one supposedly many times deadlier than VX. Yet both the ex-GRU agent and British intelligence asset father and his daughter miraculously survived. After her release from a Salisbury hospital, Yulia has now allegedly issued a statement through the Metropolitan Police that does not appear to be written in her own words. The statement dismisses the opinions of her cousin Viktoria presented to Russian television, that the British government is restricting Yulia's freedoms or denying her legal rights under UK law to receive consular assistance from the Russian Embassy in London. Not surprising, the Russians believe Yulia may be under duress or is being fed false information in a sequestered information environment to support the UK version of events.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has allegedly confirmed UK government lab test findings, but like the director of Porton Down, refuses to explicitly name Russia as the source of the agent said to be drawn from the Skripals blood samples. That of course has not stopped Her Majesty's Government and the British media from insisting the OPCW findings prove PM Theresa May and FM Boris Johnson's assignment of guilt to Russia anyway. The fantasy that Russia and only post-Soviet Russia and not any other state or deep state attached organization could manufacture 'novichok' must persist -- even if a professor of organic chemistry at Cornell University stated that non-state actors could produce the toxin.

While there is a clear connection between the weeks-long drumbeat surrounding the Skripal case and what happened in Douma, namely the Pavlovian conditioning of the public to associate 'chemical warfare' with Russia and enormous political pressure placed on the OPCW to corroborate (post)Western governments accusations against Moscow, there has been another alleged motive behind PM Theresa May and FM Boris Johnson's Russia hysterics. According to pro-Syrian government and Iranian sources, multiple British special operations soldiers or disavowed MI6 assets operating contrary to the laws of war outside of uniform were captured in the eastern Ghouta pocket. Supposedly these Brits were tasked with setting off a chemical false flag that failed prior to the Douma operation. The captured Special Air Service commandos or operatives were reportedly being detained in highly secure prisons spread around Damascus, precluding any hopes for a successful extraction mission. According to Vanessa Beeley, there were also hundreds of British passport holders among the thousands of Arabic speaking jihadists evacuated on the green buses to Idlib. It should be noted that frequent RM guest London Paul reported these allegations of far deeper and more direct British involvement with the Syria jihadis than any mainstream media outlet has admitted weeks ago (see his latest Rogue Mornings interview posted above).

Syraq SITREP 46: Is Trump Admin Stepping Back from the Brink? Or Simply Bringing More Firepower into the Theater of War?

Syraq SITREP 46: Is Trump Admin Stepping Back from the Brink? Or Simply Bringing More Firepower into the Theater of War?

No U.S. or Israeli air strikes have been reported in Syria since Monday morning's Israeli Air Force standoff missile raid on the Tiyas air base launched from Lebanese air space. But tensions remained high in the eastern Mediterranean Wednesday night, after the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon warned that Moscow would shoot down missiles fired by the U.S. and its NATO allies the UK and France at Syria. Alexander Zasypkin, in comments broadcast on Tuesday evening on the Hezbollah affiliated Al-Manar TV, also reiterated Russian Chief of Staff Valeriy Gerasimov's warning from March that not only incoming missiles but the missile launch sources (which presumably would include US Navy vessels) could be targeted by Russia in retaliation for an attack.

President Trump reacted on Twitter by stupidly threatening Russian President Vladimir Putin for backing 'the animal' Assad who allegedly gasses children. In a series of tweets that left many speculating as to whether National Security Adviser John Bolton or someone else had hijacked the President's Twitter account, Trump first promised Wednesday morning that 'smart' American missiles were coming to Syria, before someone informed POTUS he had just threatened the only nation capable of wiping the US off the map in an hour with ICBMs and started backtracking. Subsequent tweets authored by what appear to be the real Donald Trump complained that the 'bad blood' in U.S.-Russia relations had been instigated by the Russiagate hysteria created by the legacy media and his political enemies in both parties and the deep state.

The logical follow up questions being of course, why the Commander in Chief is trying to appease his implacable foes by shedding blood in Syria and potentially, risking the start of a global conflagration through killing Russian personnel embedded with the Syrians. It's also doubtful that Trump, who previously dismissed the Syrian rebels as either a bunch of untrustworthy unknowns or in cahoots with Al-Qaeda, actually believes the intelligence regarding the Assad government's guilt for the alleged chlorine or sarin as attack in Douma. Damascus has invited the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) experts to visit Douma, where the Russians insist there is no evidence any one was treated at area hospitals for toxin poisoning and their chemical/biological warfare defense forensic specialists cannot find any traces from Saturday's alleged chemical attack. Moscow has accused the MI6 backed, Al-Qaeda friendly G-NGO the White Helmets of faking the atrocity and implied the Americans are rushing to war because they have no proof. However, after Theresa May's government, fresh off accusing the Russians of using deadly nerve agent on British soil while sequestering the alleged victim Yulia Skripal, nonetheless began to wobble on the immediate urgency of a Coalition strike against Assad, the Trump White House seems to be hesitating...for the moment.

Syraq SITREP 44: Trump Delays U.S. Withdrawal from Syria Indefinitely, Amid Russian-Reported Rumors of More American Casualties from IEDs

Syraq SITREP 44: Trump Delays U.S. Withdrawal from Syria Indefinitely, Amid Russian-Reported Rumors of More American Casualties from IEDs

On Wednesday the Trump Administration made a predictable announcement -- despite the Commander in Chief's call for a withdrawal, American soldiers would stay in the war-torn country for the near future 'in consultation with allies'. Trump pushed against the Swamp, and the Swamp which includes the deep state pushed back and won the argument -- or has it? The overwhelmingly negative legacy media coverage of Trump's speech last week  to Ohio workers calling for other, unspecified powers to take up the burden of post-war reconstruction and nation building in Syria was nonetheless revealing. As they have many times since Trump's improbable election, Americans have caught another glimpse behind the curtain as to who actually rules in Washington -- and it isn't their elected representatives or President, not when it comes to abandoning the years-long and multi-multi-billion dollar failed investment Washington made in Syria regime change.

In Ankara-hosted talks between their leaders this week Russia, Turkey and Iran remain in the driver's seat in Syria with Washington delegated to the margins, as U.S. plans to use the Kurds to carve out a statelet in the northern part of the country lie in tatters thanks to the Turkish Army's intervention. East of the Euphrates in the badiya or oil and gas-rich desert scrubland where the Pentagon has been building bases, Arab tribes are reportedly displaying the Syrian government flag, and there are rumors (likely false) of roadside bombings and ambushes against American troops. Although these accounts picked up by Southfront cannot be confirmed, they seem to be mirror imaging of U.S. media propaganda that American forces killed 'hundreds' of Russian Wagner mercenaries back in February; alternatively they represent warnings to the Pentagon and the Trump White House that U.S. troops are far more vulnerable to Iraq-insurgency style tactics than Washington's promoters of occupying Syria have imagined. At the very least, members of Arab tribes bombed by the Americans during those early February clashes may be intent on revenge and can easily blend in with civilians while planting IEDs or carrying out ambushes against U.S. forces.

Syraq SITREP 39: Decisive Ghouta and Afrin Battles, Mattis Warning a Greenlight for Jihadi Chemical False Flag?

The battle for eastern Ghouta in the exurbs of Damascus is approaching a crescendo, while the fight for Afrin is also entering a critical phase as Turkish Army and neo-Ottoman militias approach the Kurdish held city. Will the YPG Kurds accept a deal with Damascus to stop the Turkish onslaught? Will the Turks even honor such an agreement with the Russians or press on to the Euphrates and Manbij as their increasingly irredentist President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has advocated? Will the globalists unleash a major chemical false flag before the victorious Syrian Arab Army's elite Tiger Forces can finish off the split portions of the jihadist pocket? Is Secretary of Defense James Mattis warning Damascus not to use chemical arms Assad and Putin insist were destroyed under international inspectors' supervision from 2013 to 2014 a greenlight to the besieged jihadis to unleash chemicals on the neighborhoods they still control?

Syraq SITREP 31: SecState Tillerson Commits Trump Admin to U.S. Occupation of Eastern Syria

During our commentary on Syria, the Russian Analyst and V the Guerrilla Economist began referring to the 'Race to the Euphrates' in late 2015, after Moscow forcefully intervened in the Syrian war to save the legitimate, and multi-confessional Damascus government. The historic analogy was to the Soviet and Allied armies meeting at the Elbe in the heart of a defeated Nazi Germany in spring 1945. However, like many historical analogies this one is both useful and flawed, in that elements of the Anglo-American-deep state (like their Wall Street bankster predecessors who supported Hitler's war machine even after Pearl Harbor) were covertly dealing with the Islamic State enemy. Certainly the huge convoys of ISIS oil tanker trucks left untouched by the Obama Administration's rules of engagement bombed to bits by Russia after President Putin's presentation to the United Nations in late September 2015 exposed the charade for anyone paying attention, shaming the Pentagon (including after a series of bloody Daesh attacks in Europe) into strangling the Langley/Riyadh fueled Frankenstein monster.

With Turkey under Erdogan already shifting from NATO into the Eurasian camp and hosting a pan-Islamic conference rejecting the decision, and Washington's position more alienated from nearly all of its allies than ever before, are we headed for another regional war after the devastating Syria and Yemen conflicts? And will the U.S. get more involved in Yemen to bail out the failing counterinsurgency campaign of its weak ally, Saudi Arabia?

Syraq SITREP 23: SAA Breaking Deir Ez Zor Siege, Bulgarian Journalist Fired for Exposing NATO's Arms Pipeline to AlCIAeda/ISIS

Civilian celebrations were filmed in Deir Ez Zor at the news that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is now almost within sight of linking up with forces that have withstood over three and a half years of ISIS besieging the city. After numerous spoiling attacks on the SAA advance across the desert failed, the terrorists now have to face pro-government tribal sleeper cells rising up in the rear as the Army approaches.

While ISIS will try to attack the narrow land corridor expected to open up by early Tuesday, the Russian-backed SAA has now accomplished what many said would never happen: the siege is being lifted. All that awaits the once mighty pseudo-caliphate across the Euphrates River valley is dispersal and death.
