Russia targets opposition leader Navalny with mass raids

Moscow (AFP) - Russian investigators on Thursday raided dozens of regional offices of top protest leader Alexei Navalny as well as the homes of his supporters after mass opposition rallies this summer.

Navalny said the raids were the result of Kremlin "hysteria" after allies of President Vladimir Putin suffered major losses in local elections in Moscow on Sunday.

Navalny, who had instructed supporters to vote strategically to push out pro-Kremlin candidates, said on YouTube: "Putin got upset and is stomping his feet."

"That's what we're seeing in 41 cities across the whole country," he added, looking tired and drawn in the video hastily shot on his mobile phone.

He said the raids were being carried out at more than 200 addresses in "the biggest police operation in Russia's modern history".

Police, investigators, national guard and security services were all involved and seized equipment such as phones and computers, he said.

Navalny has credited his strategic voting campaign for the ruling party losing almost a third of its seats in elections for Moscow city parliament, writing in a blog entry: "Why such hysteria? Two words: smart voting."

The charismatic leader said the raids were targeting his network of campaign offices and the homes of campaign coordinators and their relatives, as well as his Anti-Corruption Foundation, which has worked to expose officials' questionable wealth.

War Party Flails Against the New Reality Defined by the Singapore and Helsinki Summits

War Party Flails Against the New Reality Defined by the Singapore and Helsinki Summits

On Friday Russian President Vladimir Putin said while in South Africa for the BRICS Summit that he had invited U.S. President Donald Trump to Moscow for talks. The Administration reciprocated later in the day, saying Putin is welcome to visit the White House next year. Despite major Senate opposition and hysterical press and social media cries of ‘treason!’, the two sides are slowly working towards easing tensions. The response from the British-led trans-Atlantic deep state and their front men in Congress has been to propose more sanctions and accuse Moscow of hacking into the U.S. power grid and the campaign of Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

The deep state dead-enders are doubling down on the Russiagate scandal, with former attorney Michael Cohen contradicting his previous Senate testimony and public denials that candidate Trump did not know about a summer 2016 meeting between his son Donald Jr. and Fusion GPS paid “Russian government lawyer” provocateur Natalia Veselnitskaya at Trump Tower (Ms. Veselnitskaya was coached by Fusion GPS CEO Glenn Simpson before the meeting and after it). The President tweeted out that Cohen has likely hired old Clintons crony Lanny Davis and turned on his former patron to save himself and his Ukrainian-born father in law from an indictment over fraud in their New York taxi business — charges that, like the indictments against former campaign chair Paul Manafort, have nothing to do with Russia collusion. But they have everything to do with special counsel Robert Mueller’s desperation to find any witness who can testify for him against President Trump.

Putin BRICS Remarks Imply Need for New Monetary System

Putin BRICS Remarks Imply Need for New Monetary System

Friday’s 4.1% GDP growth rate announcement was an encouraging sign for President Trump’s #MAGA agenda, as are the first signs of real wage growth in over a decade. But the core problems of massive debt at all levels of government, plus the unfunded liabilities of bloated American military and ‘health care’ spending remain. Private borrowing — particularly in the overheated Anglosphere housing markets from London to Vancouver — is also unsustainable (including the stupid headlines about how Millennials should throw fewer bachelor parties if they want to save for a house and inexplicably sluggish sales amidst 2007-08 exceeding prices for homes). Commercial real estate from failing North American shopping malls represent the first canaries dropping in the coal mine before a worse crash than the 2008 collapse — though President Trump is buying Americans critical time.

Emerging market crises, while beneficial to the dollar in the short run, remain corrosive to the greenback’s dominance over the long haul, as countries like Turkey and Argentina seek to escape the boom-bust dollar loans cycle. Another factor undermining King Dollar is of course, the failing U.S./EU sanctions imposed on Eurasian energy giant Russia as part of Cold War II, which have spurred Moscow to make oil transactions outside of the SWIFT payments structure and in rubles, yuan or local currencies. Mindful of the foreign debt and liquidity traps Latin Americans (including the Brazilians) have repeatedly fallen into through the 20th and 21st centuries, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the topic of inevitable de-dollarization at this year’s BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. — JWS

After the Helsinki Summit, Trump Threatens Iran in ALL CAPS tweet

After the Helsinki Summit, Trump Threatens Iran in ALL CAPS tweet

A week has passed since the Trump-Putin summit, and a RogueMoney reader asked me for my thoughts on the outcome. Rather than give the stock answer of ‘it’s too soon to say’, I thought I’d do what analysts do and emphasize the knowns, then contrast those with the greater part that remain ‘known unknowns’ in the ongoing negotiations to defuse Cold War II (or more accurately, to revive the USA’s geoeconomic fortunes because Kissingerian realists in Washington realized by 2016 fighting Russia, China and Iran all at once while dominating the EU, Japan and the Koreas was no longer feasible). The problem with this traditional analytical framework including labels like ‘realism’ vs. neo-conservativism, is that Trump defies easy characterization.

On the one hand, Trump appears to sincerely want to improve U.S.-Russia relations because he has taken more heat for this than any other aspect of his platform, culminating in this week’s insane allegations that he has committed ‘treason’ by questioning the ‘intelligence community’ finding that Russia interfered in the 2016 elections in support of his candidacy. On the other hand, on Sunday night Trump escalated his anti-Iran rhetoric, hours after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) delivered a speech in southern California calling for a 1980s Reaganesque policy of rollback against the Islamic Republic.

Trump Derangement Syndrome in Full Meltdown After Helsinki Summit and Massive Tsarist Era Gold Shipwreck Reported in Far East

Trump Derangement Syndrome in Full Meltdown After Helsinki Summit and Massive Tsarist Era Gold Shipwreck Reported in Far East

The following is a roundup of the @FinanceExaminer Ken “the Shotgun Professor” Schortgen Jr’s posts about the hysteria surrounding the Trump-Putin summit and the intriguing discovery of a Russo-Japanese war era shipwreck reportedly containing over $100 billion in gold bars. Even if the estimate of what can be salvaged from the Far Eastern waters proves overly optimistic, the shipwreck underlines the massive mineral wealth the Russian treasury possessed on the eve of World War I that Moscow’s historic enemies in the City of London coveted, and eventually plundered while using the mass murdering Bolsheviks as their agents. — JWS

План Трампа: Cooperation Between the U.S. and Russian Petrostates?

План Трампа: Cooperation Between the U.S. and Russian Petrostates?

One of the undisputed keys to the revival of Russia’s fortunes under President Vladimir Putin has been his leveraging of the world’s largest country and its immense natural resource base to finance military and vital infrastructure improvements. Putin wrote his 1996 economics dissertation in St. Petersburg “Strategic Planning of the Reproduction of the Mineral Resource Base of a Region under Conditions of the Formation of Market Relations” (which Putin’s critics at RFE/RL, Brookings Institute and the Langley/Bezos Post insist was ghostwritten) about the state leveraging oil and gas production to benefit the population, as in Russia’s Arctic neighbors Norway and Alaska.

Although overlooked by the media and deep state manufactured hysteria over Trump’s ‘treasonous’ praise for Putin and their dialogue in Helsinki, CNBC did report Putin’s proposal that the U.S. and Russia work together to regulate the oil price. If implemented this plan would make Moscow, which already cooperates with leading OPEC cartel member and petrodollar pillar Riyadh, into a partner with Washington in keeping energy prices within an acceptable range. As Putin said, it would not be advantageous to the American or global economies to see prices rise too high, nor see them collapse and thereby wreck shale oil production (he didn’t need to add, also hurting Russia and the ruble in the process as the Obama Administration and globalists tried to do in an coordinated piece of economic warfare in late 2014 — Moscow would take military action to boost its leverage against the Saudis and Qataris the following autumn in Syria).

Putin knows very well that President Reagan’s CIA director William Casey worked with the Saudis to drive down the price of oil in the late 1980s, hastening the demise of the Soviet Union which had then posted the young KGB officer and his family to Dresden in East Germany. As W the Intelligence Insider says regarding that period ‘we took out the Soviet Union and the ruble but almost lost Texas’ leading to the 1989-93 recession and ‘handover’ of power from the Bushes to the Clintons. However, in an ironic role reversal, it is now the fragile U.S. economy which needs Russian cooperation to maintain a moderate to higher price, so that highly indebted frackers stay profitable as interest rates rise and steel/aluminum trade wars (including Cold War 2 sanctions on Russian metals) drive up pipeline costs. Indeed, the main problem with the shale boom is the high depletion rate of the wells, which in turn requires cheap money from the Fed and high debt loads to manage (it was no accident that fracking took off in the mid-2000s with a loose post dot.com crash and 9/11 monetary policy).

Sen. Rand Paul Praises President, Says ‘Trump Is Right To Meet Putin’

Sen. Rand Paul Praises President, Says ‘Trump Is Right To Meet Putin’

Kentucky Senator and ophthalmologist Paul may not be his libertarian legend father Dr. Ron Paul, but he is emerging as a staunch defender of President Trump’s sincere desire for detente with Russia. For challenging the bipartisan hysteria over Trump’s #HelsinkiSummit press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he has received hatred from #TheResistance and its likely paid trolls online, who tweet congratulations to Paul’s former neighbor Rene Boucher, now awaiting federal sentencing for battering a member of Congress.

Together with Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, who rhetorically asked why his son should have to die for newly admitted NATO member state Montenegro (notably omitting Russia, as opposed to irredentist greater Albania nationalists, as the likely aggressor), Paul is one of the leading defenders of dialogue with Moscow. Paul made very clear in a pre-summit interview with CNN’s Russiagate pusher Jake Tapper that he does not excuse or apologize for all of Russia’s foreign policy actions, but that Washington needed to admit it reneged on a promise not to expand NATO eastward given to the Russians as Germany reunified in 1990.

In an interview with Fox News that followed the mostly Trump friendly network’s hosts criticizing the President for being too soft on Putin and the Robert Mueller indictments-alleged ‘election hacking’ of the Democratic National Committee, Paul referred to ex-CIA director John Brennan as ‘unhinged’. He also reminded the audience that John Brennan who is today shrieking about Trump being a Russian agent cast a vote for the Communist Party presidential candidate as a ‘protest vote’ during the 1970s, at a time when the U.S. and USSR were locked in the last Cold War.

God Save the Tsar: Putin, Trump Meet on the 100th Anniversary of Bolshevik Regicide

God Save the Tsar: Putin, Trump Meet on the 100th Anniversary of Bolshevik Regicide

Monday not only marks the summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, but also the 4th anniversary of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 being shot down over eastern Ukraine. Most importantly, Trump and Putin are meeting on the 100th anniversary of the night the New York and City of London banker sponsored Bolshevik revolutionaries murdered Tsar Nicholas II and his family in the cellar of Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg. In the years after the Revolution, Soviet anti-Christian propaganda tours would pose for photographic ‘selfies’ in front of the bullet hole scarred cellar wall, in a sick celebration of the regicide that symbolized their Satanic war on God and His anointed sovereign in Rus.

By 1977, the Soviet authorities were embarrassed over the structure becoming a place of pilgrimage for Orthodox believers mourning the Tsar, and Ipatiev House was ordered demolished ahead of the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution by regional party secretary Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin. By ‘coincidence’ or divine Providence, Boris Nikolayevich, whose patronymic matched the name of the martyred Tsar Nicholas, would rapidly ascend the Soviet Communist Party ranks under premier Mikhail Gorbachev in the 1980s. After a stint as the mayor of Moscow and usurping his patron Gorbachev, Yeltsin would become the first President of a post-Soviet Russian Federation. On the 80th anniversary of the Royal Martyrs deaths twenty years ago this day, Yeltsin joined in the burial of their remains at St. Petersburg’s Peter and Paul Cathedral.

In his final act as President, Yeltsin appointed an obscure former KGB agent from the same city named Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin as his successor on the eve of the millennium. Three years later, in a nod to the German origins of the last Tsarina of Russia Alexandra Feodorovna of Hesse, President Putin would meet German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder at the Church on Blood in Honour of All Saints Resplendent in the Russian Land consecrated on the site of Ipatiev House.

Mueller uses meaningless indictments to continue deep state vilification of both Russia and cryptocurrencies

Mueller uses meaningless indictments to continue deep state vilification of both Russia and cryptocurrencies

Just as the timing of school shootings, false flags, and even geopolitical events occur as smoke screens in the wake of something that potentially could change the status quo (see the 'random MP knifing just days before the Brexit vote), so too does the Deep State use information drops as a means to change the focus of attention from the people prior to the birth of a new paradigm.  And thus it should not be surprising that on July 13 the Mueller led Special Council came out with new indictments against Russian actors in attempt to derail President Trump's summit with Vladimir Putin.

Fireworks Begin At NATO As Trump Prepares For Putin Summit

Fireworks Begin At NATO As Trump Prepares For Putin Summit

President Trump continued his demands on the NATO countries to pay their agreed share for the defense of Europe, but the question should be: defense against whom? Trump has not, as yet, repeated his charge issued during the election campaign in 2016, when he said NATO was "obsolete" and "disproportionately" too expensive, and that terrorism was the primary concern. But he has insisted, repeatedly, that "it is a good thing to be friends with Russia and China." Certainly being friends with Russia and China should render NATO obsolete.

Trump recognizes that Russia is no threat to Eastern or Western Europe, nor any other nation, and refused to characterize Russia as a "foe" on his way to the NATO summit. He has also repeatedly noted that Russia is playing a crucial part in countering terrorism, especially in Syria.

Trump's effort to establish friendly relations with Moscow, starting with the historic summit with Putin next Monday in Helsinki, is driving the British and British assets nuts.

Trump expresses confidence at Montana rally ahead of summit meeting with Putin

Trump expresses confidence at Montana rally ahead of summit meeting with Putin

On Thursday July 5 President Trump spoke at a campaign rally for Matt Rosendale, a state auditor in Montana. Speaking to the crowd inside the Four Seasons Arena in Great Falls, Trump trolled critics who say he is unprepared for the upcoming summit in Helsinki or must not negotiate one on one with Russian President Vladimir V. Putin. “Putin’s fine,” Mr. Trump said. “He’s fine. We’re all fine. We’re people. Will I be prepared? Totally prepared. I’ve been preparing for this stuff my whole life.”

“Getting along with Russia, and getting along with China and getting along with other countries is a good thing,” he added, “not a bad thing.” Trump also said, regarding the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) “We’re the schmucks that are paying for the whole thing”. If the speech as calculated to infuriate his establishment opponents, it did the trick. A meeting between several GOP United States Senators and their counterparts from Russia’s upper chamber, in which Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) declared that the two countries did not have to be adversaries, also drew hackles from the eternal Cold War waging Washington Post aka Pravda on the Potomac.

Russians know the Arab expression ‘dogs bark but the caravan moves on’. Despite the latest absurd novichok theatrics in the (dis)United Kingdom, the Trump-Putin summit is on for July 16 — one day before the fourth anniversary of the Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 false flag shoot down. For those who follow ‘QAnon’ posts and esoterica in general, the renegade American President meeting his Russian counterpart on the 100th anniversary of Tsar Nicholas II and the Royal Passion Bearers martyrdom at the hands of the Bolsheviks is also highly significant. Why? Because the original and bloodiest Color Revolution sponsored by Wall Street and the City of London was the Red one…

Syraq SITREP 60: Putin and Trump Plan Syria Talks at Helsinki Summit, Neocons Claim Kremlin and Iran Plotting Attacks on U.S. Troops

Syraq SITREP 60: Putin and Trump Plan Syria Talks at Helsinki Summit, Neocons Claim Kremlin and Iran Plotting Attacks on U.S. Troops

The Syrian Arab Army is achieving rapid advances as part of Operation Basalt. Many ‘Free Syrian Army’ militants are surrendering without a fight, and a few have joined in the pro-government forces offensive against the Al-Qaeda linked jihadists. According to CNN, President Trump told King Abdullah during their meeting last week in Washington that he intends to strike a deal with Russian President Vladimir V. Putin to facilitate the withdrawal of American troops from the Al Tanf area bordering Jordan and Iraq. U.S. backed Kurdish fighters recently clashed with pro-government militias near the extensive deconfliction line the Americans enforce around their illegal under international law base. The Russian Defense Ministry has complained the Americans use al-Tanf to harbor and re-train former ISIS terrorists.

Naturally, The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board and reporters are disturbed, while the neocons are enraged that Trump would make any concessions to the Russians. But Trump reportedly intends to demand — in return for a phased American withdrawal — the complete exit of Iranian, Hezbollah and pro-Iranian Shi’a foreign fighters from Syria. Even with the great prestige Russia enjoys among its Syrian allies and frenemies in the Turks alike, it isn’t clear Putin can deliver on this demand. Damascus has hosted at least a few Iranian military advisers since the early 1980s.

Also, the prospect of a false flag operation, either against U.S. troops or a chemical attack on Syrian civilians to be blamed on Assad, is not to be taken lightly. If the globalists cannot stop the Trump-Putin summit now set for July 16 in the Finnish capital Helsinki, the neocons appear hellbent on spoiling or blocking any positive outcomes from it…

Trump-Putin Summit Can Change the World — Emerging Fascist Force Wants To Stop It

Trump-Putin Summit Can Change the World — Emerging Fascist Force Wants To Stop It

National Security Adviser John Bolton, the ultra-hawkish neocon whose appointment in April 2018 alternatively mystified or frustrated Trump’s America First base, was ironically the President’s messenger to the Kremlin. Meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 27, Bolton accepted Putin’s congratulations on North America being awarded the 2026 World Cup. During a press conference at Interfax news agency’s Moscow offices on Wednesday, Bolton acknowledged the (bogus) claim of Russian meddling in the 2016 election would be discussed at the summit, but said little else on the subject. The finalized agenda with Trump meeting Putin in Helsinki, Finland on July 15 — a date which would allow Putin to return to Moscow for the World Cup finale — is expected to be announced by the White House on Thursday.

The response to this hopeful development has been predictable screeching and howls of outrage by #TheResistance on Twitter and members of the former Obama Administration. Somehow in 2018 after decades of Cold War liberals promoting the value of dialogue to ease tensions with Moscow, any direct talks between leaders of the world’s top two nuclear powers is said by ‘progressives’ to be absurd if not treasonous. As LaRouchePAC makes clear in the short article below, it’s no accident the Trump Administration is being attacked over immigration even as it makes peace on the Korean peninsula and to fulfill the President’s campaign promise of detente with Russia. When you see retired CIA/NSA (and oath to uphold the Constitution violating) director Gen. Michael Hayden cynically evoke the specter of Nazism to attack the Administration over its handling of border issues, you know the globalist deep state is getting desperate — and appealing to the abysmal ignorance of #TheResistance regarding which nation sacrificed more than any other to destroy Hitler’s Third Reich. — JWS

Process To Set Up Trump-Putin Summit Has Begun; London Is Alarmed

Process To Set Up Trump-Putin Summit Has Begun; London Is Alarmed

Austrian media, TASS and Russian TV have confirmed that the Trump-Putin summit is planned for July 15 in Vienna. While we are still a long way from the ‘G3’ (U.S.-China-Russia) summit the Asia Times journalist Pepe “empire of chaos” Escobar sources and others are hinting at, or the G4 of USA-Russia-China-India alignment that the LaRouche Movement has advocated for years, the balance of power is clearly changing. China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in particular is rapidly shifting the geopolitics in Europe, to the point that we are now seeing anti-Chinese government segments on prime time HBO comedy shows.

There is still enough time before the meeting planned for after the NATO summit in Brussels on July 11 and 12 for some sort of incident to be manufactured — such as a chemical weapons attack, or an alleged altercation between U.S. and Russian forces in Syria. Nonetheless, it appears as of this week that the so-called moderate Syrian rebels along the Golan Heights have been told not to expect any military intervention on their behalf, despite vague threats against Assad’s government liberating Syrian territory made by State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

As Harley Schlanger wrote for the Schiller Institute and RogueMoney this weekend, Trump’s defiance of Washington’s Cold War 2 consensus and the unraveling of RussiaGate with the FBI’s former no. 2 counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok being subpoenaed to testify before Congress are very good news for Americans and the world. Deep State actors up to their eyeballs in politicizing or outright fabricating intelligence, led by former CIA Director John Brennan, are tweet-projecting their fear of exposure onto the President. The tide may be turning against a second Cold War and toward a radical rethink of alliances and global trade. — JWS

"Unbound" Trump Opens the Door For the U.S. to Join the New Paradigm, Exposes Why RussiaGate Was Launched

"Unbound" Trump Opens the Door For the U.S. to Join the New Paradigm, Exposes Why RussiaGate Was Launched

“What does the British government know about Trump and Russia? Many trails in the Mueller inquiry lead straight to the UK” is the headline of an article published this week in the UK Spectator by BBC journalist Paul Wood. The nominally editorial independent, British taxpayer funded BBC and Mr. Wood have been advancing the RussiaGate Narrative almost from the beginning, in the weeks before Trump’s inauguration, leading up to the presentation to the President elect of the ‘dirty dossier’ by ‘ex’ MI6 agent Christopher Steele, and the planned leaking of it to Buzzfeed (now facing along with Steele, multiple lawsuits for libel). Then Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and FBI Director James Comey justified briefing Trump on the dossier by saying they were aware CNN was working on the story, which makes Clapper’s hiring by the same news network he almost certainly leaked the dossier to appear to be a corrupt transaction.

More recently, Mr. Wood reported — without presenting any evidence to contradict strong denials from Kiev — that former Trump attorney Michael Cohen was bribed by the Ukrainians in return for a 2017 White House photo op meeting between President Petro Poroshenko and POTUS. Despite his disgraceful track record of simply reporting rumors and innuendo (if not calculated British intelligence smears of Trump) as fact under a BBC byline, Mr. Wood’s Spectator article is important for three reasons…

The Entire World Is Responding to the New Reality Created by the Trump-Kim Summit

The Entire World Is Responding to the New Reality Created by the Trump-Kim Summit

Tuesday's summit in Singapore demonstrated that there is a sea-change underway in global politics, a sea-change that is sweeping away the old, decadent structures of geopolitics, and ushering in a New Paradigm which is taking root, first in Asia, around the Spirit of the New Silk Road. The world is divided, Helga Zepp-LaRouche commented today, between those, on the one hand, who understand that the Trump-Kim summit is the beginning of a new sort of process of peace through development; and those, on the other, whose hysterical reaction against the summit belies the fact that they would prefer even nuclear war to seeing the rules of their game change. The latter group includes the British Empire, their neo-con and neo-liberal allies in the U.S., and the apoplectic western media, who are lying wildly about what happened in Singapore.

G6, G7, or G8? The Post War British Imperial World is Fast Disintegrating

G6, G7, or G8? The Post War British Imperial World is Fast Disintegrating

The British Empire's 20th Century world — often mislabeled the "American Century" — is crumbling so rapidly that even the BBC headlined its coverage today: "Has Trump Broken the Special Relationship?" The President held an impromptu press conference on the White House lawn this morning before leaving for the G7 meeting in Quebec, where he told the press that "Russia should be in the meeting...it may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run." The newly elected Prime Minister of Italy Guiseppe Conte immediately tweeted: "I agree with President Trump. Russia should be re-admitted to the G8."

French President Macron had yesterday essentially ruled the U.S. out of the G7, even before Trump's "sacrilegious" invitation to Russia. Macron said we can just get along as a G6, without the US, while German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that the discord between Europe and the U.S. can no longer be swept under the rug, and Europe will have to seek new alliances. With whom, one must ask?

Putin and Trump Diplomacy Opens Way to Putin-Trump Summit

Putin and Trump Diplomacy Opens Way to Putin-Trump Summit

On June 8, U.S. President Donald Trump trolled his Russia-hating political adversaries and the press before flying to attend the G7 summit hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Quebec. After sending out a tweet congratulating one of the most famous Russian sportsmen in the world Alexander Ovechkin on his Washington Capitols winning the NHL’s Stanley Cup, Trump told reporters that Russia should be invited back in to the G7. Trump’s remarks predictably triggered outrage from neocon Republicans like Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Ben Sasse (R-NE), the Democrats, Never Trumpers and Russiagate fanatics on Twitter. But it appears Putin’s recent remark about Trump having taken the ‘courageous’ step to defy members of his own cabinet and Washington conventional wisdom to meet with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un was received well by the embattled American President.

Also on Friday, the special counsel investigation directed against the President grinds on with Robert Mueller indicting former Trump aide Paul Manafort for the umpteenth time and this time, also bringing charges against Manafort’s Ukrainian born translator, Konstantin Kilimnik. Mueller has alleged, without providing evidence in open court, that the former Soviet military trained English and Swedish linguist Kilimnik works for the Russian security services. Having failed to produce any evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, and struggling to make his case against alleged pro-Trump Russian troll farm operatives, the Kilimnik indictment appears to be Mueller’s latest gambit. — JWS

While the clowns come together in Quebec for the G-7 this weekend, real things are getting accomplished in Asia at the SCO Summit

While the clowns come together in Quebec for the G-7 this weekend, real things are getting accomplished in Asia at the SCO Summit

Nothing spells out chaos and turmoil better than the expectations this weekend for Western leaders at the G-7 conference in Quebec, Canada.

Even before arriving for the summit, European leaders have gone as far as to try to isolate the U.S. by calling the group the G-6 +1, with some like Emmanuel Macron threatening to stand toe to toe with President Trump over trade and tariffs.

However while it appears that the West has diminished to nothing more than a three ring circus, over in Asia real work is getting accomplished at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit which is scheduled to also meet this weekend.
