The Javelins of August: Deep State Plans for Escalation in Ukraine

One of the fallacies of modern warfare is that weapons, not fighting men, win wars. The motivation of Donbass native volunteers to defend their homes and home towns remains higher than that of Ukrainian conscripts to bleed and die for the idea of a 'united Ukraine' or 'repulsing Russian aggression'. This is a problem Washington's politicians, the CIA and the Pentagon have not been able to solve in three years, after humiliating Ukrainian Army defeats in Ilovaisk outside Donetsk, the still unacknowledged by Kiev late July/early August 2014 slaughter of UAF personnel in the 'southern cauldron' along the Russian border, and the rout in the crossroads town of Debaltsevo. But that doesn't mean the neocons have given up trying.

On August 1, the neocon mouthpiece Wall Street Journal editorial board admitted the objective of supplying the Kiev government with new Javelin missiles isn't victory over the 'separatists', but killing Russia's proxies and Russian advisers in the Donbass. One problem with that, and the very good reason the Obama Administration hesitated to take a step the supposed Putin-installed Trump White House is now considering, is that attrition can go both ways. Russia is more than capable of upping the ante -- including via proxy targeting of NATO advisers who 'aren't' officially observing just behind the front lines of the conflict. Moscow could also tear up gentlemen's agreements it maintains with Israel against arming the likes of Hezbollah or arm the Yemenis capable of killing America's Saudi/UAE allies in the Mideast...
