с новим годом!The Russian Analyst is Back in 2018

After a multi-month break due to personal and health reasons, the Russian Analyst will be back posting at RogueMoney.net, and perhaps covering Eurasian cryptocurrency developments for RogueCoin.net too in 2018. We want to thank the Guerrilla, Producer CJ and content contributors to Team RM for the phenomenal growth of our site and webcast audience in the past year, and we look forward to breaking down developments in Eurasian geo-economics this year.

With Russian federal elections in March, not covert at all Anglo-American-Israeli attempts to fuel a colored revolution inside Russia's Eurasian ally Iran, Democrat deep state efforts to salvage their failing #MuhRussia hacked the election narrative, the Pentagon arming Kiev to escalate conflict in the Donbass, and a serious terrorist threat as Russia hosts the 2018 World Cup, there will be no shortage of flashpoints in the coming months. We look forward to informing this astute audience what it means and how it will impact their world in the Chinese Year of the Dog. -- JWS

Putin Tells Valdai Conference He Fears Srebrenica-Type Massacre If Russia Abandons Donbass

Putin Tells Valdai Conference He Fears Srebrenica-Type Massacre If Russia Abandons Donbass

Although the following article comes from Executive Intelligence Review (EIR), we are posting it here with commentary from the Russian Analyst as it pertains to the Ukraine war.

In yet another sign that Moscow has no intention of abandoning the two breakaway mini-republics it supports in Donetsk and Lugansk, Vladimir Putin recently declared that if Russia were to close its borders to the Donbass -- as the U.S.-backed government in Kiev demands -- there could be a refugee exodus into the Russian Federation.

German Foreign Minister Gabriel Supports Putin's Plan to Introduce UN Peacekeepers to Stop the War in Donbass

German Foreign Minister Gabriel Supports Putin's Plan to Introduce UN Peacekeepers to Stop the War in Donbass

With the war on ISIS and Al-Qaeda jihadists nearly won in Syria, Washington's neocons and their deep state allies are looking to arm Ukraine with American weapons in order to pressure Russia. However Russian President Vladimir Putin has not been standing still waiting for the Javelin missiles to start flowing to Ukrainian Army units and ultra-nationalist volunteer battalions fighting Russia's local proxies in the Donbass region.

While warning Washington in a press conference that arming the U.S. proxy Kiev government could lead to the conflict spreading from Donbass to other parts of Ukraine, Putin put forward a proposal to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to introduce peacekeepers into the war-torn region. This would allow the Minsk 2 agreements portions which neither side have implemented to go forward, keeping the pro-Russian Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics either nominally part of Ukraine or as de facto independent statelets with a frozen conflict, as in Transnistria and South Ossetia/Abkhazia.

While the State Department tepidly acknowledged the Russian proposal, what has to be disconcerting to the neocons is that Germany's Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel endorsed Putin's plan, while acknowledging that Berlin and Moscow still did not see eye to eye on the status of Crimea. In other words, just as Dr. Jim Willie, London Paul and V the Guerrilla Economist have been saying for the last several years, Germany is pivoting eastward and even Chancellor Angela Merkel's reelection to a fourth term is unlikely to stop the rising Paris-Berlin-Moscow consortium of geoeconomic interests.

Tougher Line: Russia Hosts Chinese Warships in Baltic, Donetsk Declares Malorossiya

Tougher Line: Russia Hosts Chinese Warships in Baltic, Donetsk Declares Malorossiya

Several days have passed since President Donald J. Trump's first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 in Hamburg. Along with the handshake and two hours plus meet and greet open to cameras, the two world leaders also met with more privacy before midnight local time at dinner. After the legacy media breathlessly reported this second Putin-Trump face to face conversation based on Eurasia Group President Ian Bremmer's claim Monday that only the Russian leader's interpreter was nearby, an angry Trump tweeted that the press pool and G20 leaders had known all about Mr. Bremmer's 'scoop' and failed to report it earlier. The latest #TrumpRussia 'scandal, combined with the instant leak of a transcript of Trump's phone call with British Prime Minister Theresa May, in which the President reportedly sought to avoid British venues open to protesters in an upcoming visit to the UK, magnified the impression of chaos in Washington. The fact that the President's own party majority in Congress also failed to agree on an Obamacare replacement bill this week only underscores the general sense of disarray and backbiting in the undrained D.C. swamp.

The American Deep State meanwhile, through its mouthpieces like the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) published journal Foreign Policy and the James Comey leaks-cheerleading Lawfare, is pushing the ludicrous line that Donald Trump Jr's useless meeting with a few (likely Fusion GPS dodgy dossier authoring firm linked) Russians in June 2016 constitutes a violation of the 1917 Espionage Act. Looking at the fanatical opposition any rapprochement with Russia faces in Washington, it's little wonder that the Kremlin and its Chinese allies are, in the words of The Sirius Report's London Paul texted to me, losing patience with the idea that a besieged, confused or infiltrated Trump White House can deliver anything of substance.

Donbass War: Ukrainian Army Resumes 'Creeping' Offensive as Kiev and Its Beltway Backers Seek to Sabotage Trump's Detente with Russia

Donbass War: Ukrainian Army Resumes 'Creeping' Offensive as Kiev and Its Beltway Backers Seek to Sabotage Trump's Detente with Russia

Last weekend as President Petro Poroshenko met with Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany, Ukrainian forces resumed their 'creeping' offensive in the war-torn Donbass region. Advancing according to Ukrainian politicians and commanders 'meter by meter' (in violation of the Minsk 2 ceasefire agreement), the UAF claimed to have repulsed an assault by the pro-Russian Donetsk People's Republic troops on the small city of Avdiivka, very close to and northwest of the DPR capitol of Donetsk. Aside from three critically wounded POWs captured by the Ukrainian Army's 72nd mechanized brigade early Sunday, there is little evidence 'the separatists' began the attack rather than the UAF, which outnumber the Novorossiya Armed Forces (NAF)/LDNR across the hundreds of kilometers-length frontlines and have far more manpower to expend.

In reply to the question of 'qui bono?' from heavy Donbass fighting resuming now during a period when the Kremlin is seeking detente with the new Trump Administration, the answer is certainly not Russia...

'There Are Troops Jack' (Murphy) -- US Servicemen Reportedly Filmed in 'ATO' Combat Zone of E Ukraine/Donbass

During the Cold War 2.0 standoff between Russia and the U.S. in Ukraine, NATO and Washington insisted on the following Narrative: the Russians have sent combat troops to support their proxies in the Donbass, and lied about it when some of them came home in coffins. But no NATO army, much less the Americans, has sent troops or even recently discharged from active duty veterans or private military contractors (PMCs) aka mercenaries to fight alongside the Ukrainian Army. It's assumed that no NATO combatants have bled or died alongside Kiev's soldiers, or even been placed in harms' way within range of enemy artillery fire.

However, longtime Vineyard of the Saker editor and contributor 'Scott', who tweets at @ScottsHumor, tweeted out a video this week purporting to show American soldiers training their Ukrainian counterparts in the so-called 'ATO' zone of the Donbass, much closer to the front lines than the Pentagon has ever shown or admitted. If the footage can be independently authenticated, it would

A) prove that the U.S. Dept. of Defense and NATO have been lying about the extent of their involvement in the 2 1/2 year old Donbass War

B) potentially represent another escalation designed to provoke the Russians ahead of President elect Donald Trump being able to implement his campaign promise of detente with Moscow.

The latter point is what most interests the Russia Analyst, seeking answers to the question of 'why are we seeing this now?'

More Escalation in Donbass: DPR/DNR Commander 'Motorola' Assassinated by Suspected Kiev Regime Bomb

Arseniy Pavlov, better known by his nom de guerre Motorola, the famed commander of the Sparta battalion, has been assassinated by a bomb planted in the elevator of his apartment building in Donetsk. The perps would have had to track his movements and set the bomb for the right time of arrival, meaning it took some surveillance and skill to pull off this hit. The explosives are said by pro-Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Twitter sources to have been over 1.5 kilos of TNT equivalent (possibly C4).
