Now we know why some Israeli and US RFE/RL propagandists faked footage of 2013 air strikes near Damascus by Israel's Air Force as happening last week -- Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton and other presidential candidates' hopes of instituting a U.S. no fly zone over any part of Syria have been terminated with prejudice by Moscow's S400s deployed to Latakia. The Israeli Air Force is not going to be bombing targets in Syria anytime soon, and will have to keep using NATO's rent a jihadis and social media warriors videos from old air strikes inside Syria to sell the neocons on the notion that the IAF can still violate Syrian air space anytime it likes, as in the good ole' days before the Russian Bear showed up with the fastest (Mach 13+, almost as fast as the space shuttle), deadliest SAMs on the planet. The Guerrilla Economist, speaking in an interview with USA Watchdog's Greg Hunter, predicted this very development along with the Russia Analyst back in early October. Last year, the Russia Analyst speculated that Ukrainian Tochka ballistic missiles launched at the chemical plant near Donetsk which were intended to create an ecological disaster and perhaps force a partial evacuation of some parts of the rebel capital were shot out of the sky by Russian S400s.
We also told the Guerrilla Radio audience that the deployment of these systems near the border had essentially grounded Kiev's air force within 150 miles of Russia. Recently the Ukrainians have begun a few turboprop reconaissance flights near Donetsk again, but there is little sign that the Su-25 or MiG-29s of the Ukrainian Air Force will be flying over the Novorossiya Armed Forces (NAF) anytime soon.
The S400 system is part of what NATO Supreme Commander USAF General Phillip Breedlove called Russia's 'A2/AD bubble being created in the eastern Mediterranean'. It appears that contrary to what our friend The Saker thought that this SAM envelope would only consist of less capable Pantsir SAMs around the Latakia air base and S300s on the guided missile cruiser Moskva off shore, Breedlove knew Moscow was preparing to bring in its most advanced long range air defense system. As Gen. Breedlove explained in his speech to the German Marshall Fund at the start of the Russian air campaign in Syria, Moscow already dominates the Baltic and Black Seas from its unsinkable aircraft carriers of Kaliningrad and Crimea, and now we can add the eastern Mediterranean out to British-controlled Cypriot air space to that mix:
According to Breedlove, the introduction of an A2/AD bubble in Syria would be Russia’s third denial zone around Europe. The first and oldest he said, was in the Baltics where the Russian naval base in Kaliningrad has robust anti-air capabilities. The second zone—originating from Russian-occupied Crimea—covers the Black Sea.
“Russia has developed a very strong A2/AD capability in the Black Sea,” said Breedlove. “Essentially their [anti-ship] cruise missiles range the entire Black Sea, and their air defense missiles range about 40 to 50 percent of the Black Sea.”
The S400s appeared in images tweeted by @YuryBarmin, one of our favorite sources on Twitter regarding Russian military and diplomatic affairs. The photos were new shots of the Russian air base near the coastal city of Latakia where support for the Assad government among the majority Allawite and Christian population is strong. Among other things, the shots showed modern Russian T-90 battle tanks, which had been photographed by unclassified, high quality commercial satellites shortly after their deployment to guard the base in September. The apparently fully operational S400 battery appeared in the background of a tweeted picture of Russian Su-24 Fencer strike fighters on the tarmac.
Somebody in the Kremlin decided a single slap to Bibi and the Iran-obsessed Israeli government wasn't enough -- Moscow needed to double the embarrassment by giving Tehran a big fat loan to develop industrial and electrical power infrastructure
As the tweet above reported, that was not the only Russian Ministry of Defense 'leak' of the week. Moscow also showed rather detailed, color blueprints for a long range underwater drone under the project code name 'Status 6' that could stealthily move hundreds of kilometers through deep water towards U.S. ports and detonate a nuclear warhead inside a U.S. port on the East or West Coasts.
Why would Russia develop such a system, you may ask, other than pure evil? Well, the 'leak' occurred in the context of Vladimir Putin meeting with his defense chiefs and declaring that the U.S. had continued deploying its ballistic missile defense shield in Europe even though Washington had reached an agreement with Iran on Tehran's alleged nuclear weapons program. In other words, Putin called the U.S. liars and declared that the ballistic missile defense deployment in NATO countries was intended to erode Moscow's strategic rocket forces nuclear deterrent, not protect Europeans from a non-existent Iranian WMD missile threat.
As my friend The Saker writes:
This so-called “leak” of “secret documents” is, of course, no leak at all. This is a completely deliberate action. To imagine that a Russian journalist could, just by mistake, film a secret document (helpfully held up for him by a general) and then just walk away, get it passed his editor and air it is laughable. Any footage taken in a meeting of the President with his senior generals would be checked many times over. No, this was a deliberate way to remind the USA that if they really are hell-bent on spending billions of dollars in a futile quest to create some kind of anti-missile system Russia could easily develop a cheap weapon system to still threaten the USA with total annihilation. Because, make no mistake, the kind of long range torpedo being suggested here would be rather cheap to build using only already existing technologies...
Coming back to the real world, I don’t believe for one second that any type of anti-missile system could be deployed in Europe to shield NATO the EU or the US from a Russian retaliatory strike should the Empire ever decide to attack Russia. All the East Europeans are doing is painting a cross-hair on themselves as these will be the very first targets to be destroyed in case of a crisis. How? By use of special forces first and, if needed, by Iskander missile strikes if all else fails. But the most likely scenario is that key components of the anti-missile system will suddenly experience “inexplicable failures” which will render the entire system useless. The Russians know that and so do the Americans. But just to make sure that everybody got the message the Russians have now shown that even a fully functional and survivable US anti-missile system will not protect anybody from a Russian retaliation.
The sad thing is that US analysts all fully understand that but they have no say in a fantastically corrupt Pentagon. The real purpose of the US program is not to protect anybody against a non-existing Russian threat, but to dole out billions of dollars to US corporations and their shareholders. And if in the process the US destabilizes the entire planet and threatens the Russians – then “to hell with ‘em Russikes!
And now late breaking on Thursday we have these interesting diplomatic developments:
Come fly the friendly skies of #Brutalistan -- the S400 is the world's most advanced deployed land based air defense system
RIA Novosti videos of the S400 Triumf being tested at firing ranges in Russia
China has ordered between four and six battalions of S400s at a cost of over $3 billion, to be delivered in 2017 as Russia begins producing the S500
Flashback to late summer 2013: Moscow reportedly shot down two missiles fired from a U.S. sub or ship in the Mediterranean bound for Syria. After that 'rogue' launch was detected and intercepted, the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, already reluctant to get involved in another Mideast war, backed off
